Successful Completion of the NATO M&S Basic Course – November 2024

Rome, November 14 – With an impressive display of international collaboration and expertise, the NATO Modelling & Simulation Centre of Excellence (M&S COE) wrapped up its second NATO M&S Basic Course of 2024. Held from November 11 to 14, the session brought together 24 students from nine nations at the M&S COE premises, where they joined forces to strengthen NATO’s future readiness.

Participants engaged with the foundational principles of Modelling & Simulation, focusing on its applications in the military sector and in alignment with NATO’s evolving requirements. In-depth sessions illustrated how M&S is integrated across NATO’s core operational areas, enriched by case studies from the Joint Warfare Centre (JWC) and Joint Force Training Centre (JFTC).

Additionally, a live demonstration of the Joint Theatre Level Simulation (JTLS-GO) platform showcased parameter adjustments and real-time usage, giving participants hands-on exposure to this pivotal simulation tool. Through these dynamic learning opportunities, the course not only provided critical M&S knowledge but also immersed students in practical applications relevant to NATO’s operational landscape.

This course underscored NATO’s unwavering commitment to unity, resilience, and cutting-edge training, drawing on partnerships with renowned institutions including ITA Army CESIVA, the University of Tor Vergata, University of Genoa, US Joint Multinational Simulation Center (JMSC), Joint Warfare Centre (JWC), Joint Force Training Centre (JFTC), and Brno University.

The M&S COE Director, Colonel Francesco Pacillo, highlighted the importance of this course in shaping NATO’s future, noting that it reflects NATO’s commitment to innovation and teamwork. The dedication of each participant was a key step in improving NATO’s readiness and building a global network of skilled professionals ready to tackle modern defense challenges.

Reflecting NATO’s core values, the course not only provided robust training but also fostered a spirit of camaraderie among participants from diverse backgrounds. As they return to their respective nations, each participant brings with them a foundation of shared expertise and a mission to drive simulation-powered defence strategies.

Through this course, M&S COE reaffirms its role as a hub of excellence, consistently advancing NATO’s capabilities and setting the stage for a new generation of Modelling & Simulation experts prepared to lead in a world that demands constant innovation.
