15th NATO CA2X2 Forum – Modelling & Simulation CoE in Rome

Rome-Italy: From 22nd to 24th September 2020 the NATO Modelling and Simulation Centre of Excellence digitally hosted the annual NATO CA2X2 Forum (Computer Aided Analysis, Exercise, and Experimentation Conference).

The 15th NATO CA2X2 Forum represents an event where military, industry and academia experts meet and discuss M&S topics, exercises, experimentation, war-gaming and standardization interoperability; during the event were also presented demonstrations on the latest technologies and trends.

The event, run for the very first time in a virtual environment, was entirely set up within the facilities of “Adriano De Cicco” barracks -Rome-Cecchignola.  The topic of this edition was “Modelling and Simulation enabling NATO and Nations“.

The participants were welcomed by the messages of the NATO Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, General Italian Army Paolo Ruggiero, the Deputy CHOD General Staff Lt. General Italian Army Luigi Francesco De Leverano, and the NATO ACT Deputy Chief of Staff Joint Force Development Major General Spanish Air Force Guillermo Cavo.

Colonel Michele TURI, the NATO M&S COE Director, during his introductory message stated: “This is the first time ever the Modelling and Simulation Center of Excellence organized such an event in a virtual and digital environment; this signs an important milestone in our organization. Nowadays, due to the pandemic outbreak, the new challenge is related to the re-organization of all our consolidated activities in a new digital way”.

630 digital visitors, 41 nations, 124 companies, 59 exhibitors, 22 workshop sessions and 11 sponsors managed by the italian platform “LiveForum”, guaranteed an active participation and a huge media interest.

The meeting mainly focused on: Decision Support and Analysis, Training and Education, Mission Readiness, Experimentation and Effects of the Pandemic.

During the event a lot of opportunities have arisen and many new projects are already foreseen in the near future; the 15th NATO CA2X2 Forum was the perfect venue to gather the M&S community of interest during the pandemic period to share significant contents and contributions in order to enhance the quality of future projects.
